The visioning phase of the Corry 2020 process is now complete and community-wide voting has begun on all of the project ideas that were brainstormed by those who live and/or work in the Corry area. Between April and November 2009, we conducted 32 forums with attendance of 267 and received completed surveys or feedback from 35 people, for a grand total of 302. Those who attended the forums were asked: What do you love about the Corry area? What are the weaknesses/challenges facing the Corry area? What is your vision for the Corry area? What are some projects we can undertake as a community to achieve that vision?
Those who completed the surveys were asked: What do you love about the Corry area? If you moved away from Corry, why did you move? What would bring you back? What seem to be the one or two most important challenges for our community to address? What strengths and resources do we have in this community that we can build on? What are some actions we can take as individuals, as families, as businesses, churches, clubs, schools, and other groups, and as an entire community working together? Please share some project ideas we can undertake. What talents, skills, or resources would you be willing to offer to help realize your vision for the Corry area? Imagine that, 10 years from now, Corry is a healthy, vibrant, and prosperous as you would like it to be. What does it look like? What types of recreational and cultural activities, education, human services, businesses, transportation, neighborhoods, etc. do we have? How do things work? What would it feel like to live here? The Coordinating Committee expresses its heartfelt thanks to all those who willingly and enthusiastically shared their ideas. These forums generated hundreds of pages of input, 25 pages of which were project ideas. We consolidated these project ideas down to 10 pages and now invite residents, those who work in the Corry region, and those who simply care about Corry's future to vote on these project ideas until January 06, 2010.
The Corry 2020 Process
The Corry Community Development Corporation (CCDC) received a grant from the Corry Community Foundation to undertake a community visioning and strategic planning process. CCDC contracted with Dr. Renée Lamis of Dynamic Visions Consulting to facilitate this process. CCDC did some initial planning, began the process of mobilizing the community, and then appointed a coordinating committee to oversee the process over the course of the next nine months. The Corry 2020 Coordinating Committee, comprised of Steve Bishop, Pam Brown, Alex Gernovich, Mike Largarticha, Melanie Miller, Chris Schalles, and Jean Farver, has decided to embark on a process that will engage hundreds of Corry-area residents in brainstorming a vision, understanding our challenges, building on our strengths, discovering opportunities, and prioritizing and implementing project ideas. Between June and September, we will conduct dialogue forums with the public as well as representatives from the following sectors:
Then, between September and November, we will hold one forum to generate and select project ideas and three or four Dialogue-to-Change Action Forums to define the projects, outline tasks, assign responsibilities, develop budgets, identify data to measure outcomes, and seek support and partners. There will also be an opportunity for residents to provide their input through a survey and via the Corry 2020 website at www.corry2020.com. Through dialogue and action, we can make our community a more vital and prosperous place to live. We look forward to hearing from you! |
