Get on Board with Corry's Vision!

In January, the Corry Community Development Corporation (CCDC) received a $25,000 ReTool Erie grant to undertake several initiatives.

Part of the reason for this grant was to assess current and ongoing projects and review the Corry 2020 data to set the "strategic doing" and future
direction for CCDC for the coming years.  To that end, CCDC is in the process of:

¨       Identifying projects that can be implemented by existing organizations;

¨       Evaluating the feasibility of projects and fostering collaborative partnerships to implement them; and

¨       Reviewing projects identified by the Action Planning Teams to assess feasibility and implementation.

Projects that are done or are currently underway as a result of the Corry 2020 data include:

¨       Developing a motto or tag line for Corry (going on right now-see Home page);

¨       Having seasonal annual clean-ups (Improving Downtown and
        Neighborhoods Team have had two: one in April 2010 and one in April 2011) ;

¨       Continuing the Corry Neighborhood Initiative;

¨       Starting a Farmers' Market (Improving Downtown and Neighborhoods Team; two years running now);

¨       Celebrating the 150th (the week of June 13-19);

¨       Coming together to clean up Mead Park;

¨       Offering music lessons at the Hi-Ed (Cultural Opportunities Team-been offering lessons at the Hi-Ed for several months now);

¨       Updating corrypa.com (in progress);

¨       Updating the community calendar (in progress);

¨       Opening a Music Store (Creative Projects in April 2010-Entertainment Team);

¨       Renovating the Corry Historical Museum (ongoing, much progress made to-date);

¨       Starting a Corry's Got Talent (being developed by the Community Theatre);

¨       Developing more post-secondary education at the Hi-Ed Council (which is in the process of completing a year-long strategic planning process);

¨       Bringing different kinds of bands to Corry (Corry Area Arts Council is also currently engaged in strategic planning with the Auxiliary, the
       Artists' Guild, the Community Theatre, and area musicians' groups);

¨       Having more concerts for Corry's youth to enjoy (Corry Area Arts Council);

¨       Having a circus (July 25-spearheaded by the Chamber).

Some projects that are ongoing, upcoming, or being explored and are in need of additional help:

¨       Creating a Skate Park (Skate Corry group spun off from Recreation Team and have been meeting, planning, locating land, and having fundraisers for over a year);

¨       Finding a venue to show movies (being worked on by Entertainment Team);

¨       Developing an after-school arts program (being worked on by Cultural Team in cooperation with Arts Council, Artists' Guild, and the Auxiliary);

¨       Creating an attractive entrance to the city of Corry (Improving Downtown and Neighborhoods Team);

¨       Opening a Co-op Gallery to showcase the work of local artists (being worked on by Cultural Team in cooperation with Arts Council, Artists' Guild, and the Auxiliary);

¨       Developing an entrepreneurship program (Entrepreneurship Team);

¨       Starting a Buy Local/Shop Local Campaign (Entrepreneurship Team);

¨       Starting a Snow/Winter Festival (being worked on by Entertainment Team); and

¨       Starting a Fall Music Festival (being worked on by Entertainment Team).

Over the next three months, CCDC will be continuing to identify upcoming projects and will be engaged in action planning, recruiting additional
volunteers, and working on implementation. The next Community Meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 25 (see Upcoming Events page for details).
