Education

The Corry Middle-High School is a comprehensive school housing approximately 1,200 students in grades 7-12.  Along with academic classrooms, the Middle-High School was completely renovated in 1991 and boasts a comprehensive vocational and technical wing.

The Corry Area School District includes five "neighborhood" elementary schools.  Many specialized programs are available at each of these schools, including Title 1 Programs, Spanish and Reading Recovery for first graders.  The Corry Area School District supports the arts in a variety of ways including band, theater, art classes and chorus, and also has a variety of recreational and athletic programs for both girls and boys.  The School District offers a wide selection of elective courses and programs that exceed the requirements of the State Board of Education.  All libraries, labs, K-12 classrooms and administrative offices are linked to the Internet through a total of more than 500 networked computers.

Besides the public school system, the city has one private, parochial school - St. Thomas School for preschool through 8th grade.  Also, the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center offers services to preschool handicapped children and adults, and other preschool programs are available through the YMCA of Corry and the First United Methodist Church.

The Corry Higher Education Council, established in 1991, facilitates and provides a wide range of educational offerings for adults at the Smith Education Center. These include everything from GED training to undergraduate and graduate-level college coursework and degrees.  A full slate of non-credit computer training, job-related training and workshops, personal enrichment and life-skills offerings, and after-school and summer programs for kids are provided.

In addition, the Education Council is the local liaison to the Pennsylvania CareerLink service for job-search and job-availability activities, and provides free academic and career counseling to adults.

The Corry Public Library , which moved into a new building in May of 1996, offers over 50,000 volumes of books, and many periodical and reference materials.  They also have tapes, videos, audio books, a microfilm library, and computers with Internet access and word processing available for public use.  The Corry Public Library is a part of the Power Library and Access Pennsylvania programs.
